In my younger years, I thought I was doing the right thing by moving the boat back about 150mm to make lifting the trailer coupling easier. Lighter coupler places more weight on the trailer wheels and less weight on the tow vehicle. Sounds rather logical.
Wrong, the trailer, boat or caravan needs 8% to 10% of its total trailer weight (ATV) on the tow ball.
This reduces sway to almost ZERO.
Sway can occur from bad roads, driving habits and passing traffic including trucks.
