There many different quality spring types. Some brands sag over time, some are susceptible to breakage and others just rust away prematurely.
Here's a tip. Old salty rocked into our warehouse some time ago and purchased spring center bolts and hangers. I asked him if he wanted springs too because it looked like his old gear had all rusted away.
Old salty reckoned he painted his springs with a waterproofing bitument paint 20 years ago and they are still like brand new. So there's a good TIP and bitumen paint is available a most hardware stores.
