The Sens-a-BRAKE EVO
Controller
The Sens-a-BRAKE EVO
controller is unique in its operation in that, unlike the majority of other
brake controllers that are inertia-activated, it instead utilizes a pressure
sensitive brake pad that is able to accurately measure the force applied to the
brake pedal. As a result, The Sens-a-BRAKE is not affected by external infl
uences such as road surface, road gradient or vehicle speed and direction. It is
a ‘true’ proportional braking system duplicating the braking action of the
towing vehicle.
The Sens-a-BRAKE EVO
controller is the only brake controller that is able to intelligently determine
what method of actuation system is fi tted to the trailer and adjust its output
accordingly. This includes electric drum brakes, and most electro-hydraulic
actuators.
Sens-a-BRAKE
Pad
The patented
Sens-a-BRAKE incorporates a unique pressure sensitive fi lm that enables the
accurate measurement of the force being applied to the brake pedal. There are
signifi cant benefi ts in utilizing the measurement of pad force over other
control mechanisms, these include:
The Sens-a-BRAKE pad
mounts directly to the original towing vehicle brake pedal replacing the
existing brake pad rubber
Sens-a-BRAKE
Mouse
The unique ‘panic’
button incorporated into the Sens-a-BRAKE mouse enables the driver of the towing
vehicle to have total control when a trailer sway situation occurs. The ‘panic’
button applies light braking to the trailer independent to that of the tow
vehicle therefore reducing the possibility of ‘jack-knifi ng’ and enabling the
driver to maintain control.
A slide control
provides the driver with the ability to instantly adjust the ‘gain’ to fi ne
tune braking characteristics.
Electronic Control
Unit
The Sens-a-BRAKE electronic control unit
continuously monitors the state of the brake system actuator to ensure safe
operation. The early detection of possible faults, such as low air pressure, air
leakage, inadequate power feed, excessive duty cycle or trailer disconnection are all continually monitored with the driver
being informed of any fault through the Sens-a-BRAKE mouse.
Actuator - Pneumatic over
Hydraulic Actuator
The common downfall
or earlier electro-hydraulic brake actuators is time-lag or delayed response
time. This is due to the delay in receiving a signal from the inertia
controller, and the time taken for the electric pump to generate enough
hydraulic pressure to effect a braking actuation. The Sens-a-BRAKE has addressed
this not only through its highly advanced electronic controller, but by
utilizing a compressed air reservoir to provide instant activation of the
hydraulic master cylinder.
This has resulted in
unparalleled brake response time of less than 1/3 second.

Break-away
function
In accordance
with legal requirements the Sens-a-BRAKE incorporates break-away intelligence
that automatically activates the trailer brakes when the trailer is separated
from the towing vehicle. Unlike other break-away systems the Sens-a-BRAKE
solution does not require additional componentry such as activation cables or
batteries. The Sens-a-BRAKE break-away system remains activated until the
trailer is reconnected to the towing vehicle or the air pressure is
released.
